As the air starts to shift and the days get just a little shorter, we all find ourselves standing in front of our closets thinking… “Is it too soon for boots?” The truth is, transitional dressing is all about balance. It’s that sweet spot where summer staples and cozy fall favorites can coexist. Below, are some of my summer to fall transition favorites that will have you filling up your cart!
Summer To Fall Transition Looks
Swapping out shorts for high-waisted trousers is a simple way to transition into fall. Pair them with a fitted tank, cardigan and your favorite accessories.
This look is perfect for work, back to school events, church, etc.
Short dresses with a fall print or color (think darker tones), are one of my go-to’s if the temps are still high! This button down shirt dress is easy, breezy & work appropriate.
Transitional footwear is all about versatility. During this in-between season, the goal is to find shoes that feel appropriate for both sunny afternoons and crisp mornings. Sneakers and flats are always a favorite of mine. They are structured enough for fall, but not too heavy for late summer looks.
Time to bring out the denim! Denim jeans are of course a classic in the fall. In summer months – including August, I love to opt for white jeans to match the light tone of summer. Once we move into September, I go for darker washes.

For The Cool to Warm Days
Sleeveless sweater vests are not only adorable, but another great option for those warmer transition days! This adorable top can either be worn with the bows in the front or back. I layered this top with a tank underneath to provide a little extra coverage.
For those more relaxed days, I love to opt for a two-piece set with sleeves! The pair of shorts and long sleeves combo is one of my favorites. This set is a look for less and is available in several color combos.
A classic for a reason, the denim jacket is my go-to for cooler mornings and warmer afternoons.
Pair it with a cute set, maxi dress, or your favorite biker shorts and tank combo.
Last but not least is this great year-round maxi dress! It’s lightweight and perfect for warm days. To optimize it for cooler days you can throw on a jean jacket, cardigan, blazer, etc. It can also be styled with sneakers, mules for work, wedges, etc.
It is one of my favorite basics! View more of my go-to basics here.
