What is a Capsule Wardrobe?
Don’t feel bad if you don’t know what a “capsule wardrobe” is. It’s just a fancy word for saying “clothing basics”. These basics should be timeless, have the ability to wear multiple times and be able to be mix and match.
How Do I Build a Capsule Wardrobe?
The way I like to think about building your wardrobe is like building a house. Start with the foundation and load bearing walls. Think of these pieces as the core structure of your house. You can’t complete an outfit without them. All the other accent colors and pieces are for your added style/flare. I’ve broken this process down into steps to set you up for success.
Step One : Closet Clean Out
Take everything out of your closet and drawers. I mean everything – even if you think you may still want it! That way you’re starting with a clean blank slate (don’t worry, they aren’t going in the garbage yet). Consider having a fabric shaver, extra hangers, and steamer on hand for those items you decide to keep.
Step Two: Assess the Clothes You Have.
This is when you’ll need to grab my Must-Have Capsule Wardrobe Checklist. It’s my freebie to you! Only put the clothes back in your closet that you can check off the list. These will be your core basics that should carry you through the seasons.
Step Three: What to Do with the Rest?
If you haven’t worn something in at least a full calendar year, I suggest doing one of these four actions.
Toss
Cosign
Keep
Donate
Toss
I recommend tossing the items that are damaged or extremely worn, such as panty hose with rips, underwear you haven’t worn in ages, socks with holes, t-shirts with pit stains. These can not be recycled.
Consign
I love this option because it means you make money! There are a few options here.
Local Consignment – every city has consignment shops that usually take in seasonal clothes, trending fashion, or name brand items. I suggest starting here. It’s worth bringing all your clothes and seeing what you can get. Some consignment shops offer the ability to donate your clothes afterward with items they don’t want. You can either choose this route or take what’s left over and move on to my next option.
Thred up – Thred up is one of the largest online thrift stores that recycles second hand clothing. You can sign up for a “clean out kit” and send off your clothes to them and they take care of it. Once the items sell you can get a cash out or shopping credit.
Poshmark – Poshmark is another option that gives you more control over selling. You can simply sign up for the free app and post your own clothes. You can choose the price. This option is ideal if you don’t mind taking the time to post and ship each item.
Keep
Keep only the items on my checklist, however there are those pieces that you’ll need as accent pieces or an expensive splurge you aren’t willing to get rid of. I get it! Just remember that it’s easy to fall into the trap of making an excuse to keep something. Just remind yourself – it’s just stuff!
Donate
This is one of my favorite options because it’s the easiest! Round up all your leftover clothes, put them in a bag and drop them off at your local thrift store. This not only benefits the community, but it’s the least amount of work. Some thrift stores offer the option to itemize your clothes or donations for the ability to write it off on your taxes. Plus no hassle with storing your clothes waiting for them to sell online. Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing you did something good for the planet and community! Win Win!
Step Four: Missing Checklist Items
Build out the rest of your wardrobe with the missing items from your checklist. I’ve linked a few options below (one item per category). Remember to keep colors in mind. I suggest neutrals – white, black, grey, taupe/tan, nude. I’ve got a lot of options to shop from on my “build your wardrobe” – amazon store front or shop page
From here you can start thinking of adding in some accent colors to your wardrobe. Think about what colors suit your skin tone and personality. For me, I love pink/mauve/rose tones.
A quick guide for colors based on your skin tone consider these:
Light Skin Tones: Typically cool tones such as blues, grey, baby pink. Silver typically looks better rather than gold or copper when considering jewelry.
Medium Skin Tones: Think of warm tones such as browns, orange, olive, green, reds, purples. Gold and copper look better rather than silver.
Dark Skin Tones: Navy, burgundy, hot pink, teal, bright red.
Keep in mind this is a guide and not the end all be all rule. Fashion is all about feeling confident in your clothes. If you love a certain color that doesn’t follow this guideline – go for it!
How Much Clothes Should be in a Capsule Wardrobe?
There is no hard and fast rule on how many pieces you should have in your closet. If you stick with my Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe checklist you will have 90 pieces all together (including intimates). Sounds like a lot, but isn’t it kind of crazy thinking about how many extra wardrobe items we already have on top of this!
Capsule Wardrobe Must Haves
Now that you’ve completed your closet clean out, assessment, and built a solid foundation for your wardrobe feel proud! Sometimes letting go of clothes can be hard, however for me, after the mess is cleared the anxiety goes with it! Comment below what’s your favorite part of a closet clean out and building a whole new wardrobe.
How to Style a Shacket for Fall and Winter – Step by Step
Tired of a boring sweater? Shackets are a great alternative, and with them coming back year to year, I’d recommend investing in a few! I’m almost embarrassed to say that my closet is slowly starting to be taken over by them (and I thought my sweaters were a problem, eek!). But who can say no when they come in so many different patterns and styles. Not to mention they’re so comfy and cozy! Here is your ultimate style guide to shackets – from ‘what the heck are they’, to how to style these bad boys.

5. Plaid Shacket
6. Shacket and Dress Combo
What is a Shacket?
Let’s not make it more difficult than it needs to be. A shacket is simply a “shirt jacket”. Combine the two words and you get “shacket”. Genius right? I think of it as a hybrid between a flannel shirt and lightweight jacket. I’m not sure how long ago these came about, however this little hybrid is here to stay. I’ve seen it come back year after year so I’d suggest investing in one or two.
What Do You Wear With a Shacket?
Shackets aren’t as tricky as some make them out to be. I think of them as a heavy flannel and they’re meant to be layered. Let’ break it down step by step.
Step one: Pick a base or bottom (pants, jeans, biker shorts, faux leather leggings, shirt dress, midi skirt)
Step two: Choose your first layer (bodysuit, waffle knit shirt, lace tank, body contouring t-shirt or turtleneck, etc).
Pro-tip: If your shacket has a pattern choose a neutral or solid color base or layer.
Step three: Layer Shacket on Top
Pro-tip: Layer additional clothes underneath as needed given the temperature
Step four: Add shoes. These can be sherpa boots, sneakers, booties, knee high boots. Don’t be afraid to dress up or down.
Step Five (optional): Add hat. It can be a ballcap, wide brim hat, cabbie, or beanie depending on which look you’re going for.
Shacket Outfit Ideas
Need a shacket outfit idea? I’ve created a video with 9 different shacket outfit ideas to choose from using jeans, leggings, faux leather leggings, a midi dress, skirt and more. You can even shop all these looks below.
Don’t let the length of this shacket scare you! It’s actually a really good option if you’re feeling lazy. Throw on some jeans, a white knotted t-shirt or lacey tank and you’re good to go. You can also style a long shacket with faux leather leggings, sneakers, and plain shirt as well. I had fun styling this piece by adding a stiff wide brim hat.
Plaid Shacket
When I think of a shacket, one of the first things that comes to mind is the pattern: plaid. Plaid is a great pattern for fall and winter. There are many different types of plaid (check, gingham, tattersall, houndstooth, tartan, glen, etc) but sticking with a neutral color option will extend the use of your shacket. But hey, if bright colors are your thing: you do you! Below are some great plaid shacket options!
Shacket and Dress Combo
A shacket and dress combo is one not to be overlooked! By layering a shacket over top of a dress you can really dress it down. Try layering over a shirt dress. I’m also a fan of pairing a tighter fitting dress or skirt with a looser fitting item (like a shacket). Try pairing a body contouring dress or skirt with an oversized shacket. Add a hat and boots for extra style!
Now you’re a shacket expert! At the end of the day, style is all about feeling confident in what you’re wearing. Now that you have some inspiration, feel confident that whatever shoes you pick, you’re going to look GREAT! Want more styling ideas? What would you like to see next? Comment below!

How to make a Strapless Bra Stay Up
We all have that strapless bra that just won’t stay up. If you’re like me, it’s probably buried in your underwear drawer never to be worn. I say dig it out and put it to good use! We are going to make this one work and here’s how:
Before putting it on, take one strap completely off.
Take the other strap and unhook one side
Put the bra on.
Cross the unhooked side across the underside of your bust
Hook to the opposite side.
Try this hack with an off the shoulder knotted t-shirt. It’s so simple and easy. Forget having to keep pulling your bra up all night. With this simple hack you’ll be good to go! I promise it stays up all day! Simply magic.
Don’t know how to hide bra straps in a tank top? This next hack is about to blow your mind! It’s so simple you’ll be kicking yourself for not thinking of it. All you need is a simple paper clip and you are ready to work:
Before putting on your bra, extend your straps ¾ out.
Slide both sides of the bra straps into the paper clip
Place bra over your head
Hook bra to comfort
No worries, no bra straps seen here!
No Strapless Bra Hack
If you don’t have a strapless bra, you don’t need to go out and buy one. I have another DIY bra hack for you here:
Unclip both back straps
Extend both straps

The 90’s are back, baby! Straight leg jeans are in and I see no sight of them going away any time soon. I have to give Gen Z some credit where credit is due because straight leg jeans are comfy! Now I’ll always love skinny jeans and the figure they give you, however let’s face it, straight leg are so much easier to put on. Am I right? However, one problem, what shoes to pair? I’m breaking it down by category to show you what shoes to wear with straight leg jeans.

How to Wear Straight Leg Jeans with Sneakers
Sneakers for Straight Leg Jeans
Everyone loves a good comfy sneaker! Sneakers look great with straight leg jeans! Now, let me first clarify I’m not talking athletic or gym shoes, but a nice plain low-profile white sneaker with a little platform. These babies go a long way. Try cuffing your jeans to show some ankle or wear as normal – either way these are going to look good on you!
What Boots to Wear with Straight Leg Jeans
Ankle Boots for Straight Leg Jeans
This could be an entire blog post in itself since they’re so many different types of boots (comment below if you’d like to see it). For the sake of this article, I’ll stick with ankle boots for straight leg jeans. I suggest a tighter ankle fit with a looser pant (try a sock booties). Let’s talk toe shape. I recommend a pointy toe since it give the illusion of a longer leaner leg. The height of the ankle bootie doesn’t matter. If you go with a tighter ankle bootie your ankle won’t get lost if your straight leg jeans happen to fall over the top of the boot. If you’re a fan of showing off a little ankle try cuffing your jeans.
What Shoes You Should Pair with Straight Leg Jeans
Can You Wear Heels with Straight-Leg Jeans?
High Heels for Straight Leg Jeans
High heels are a great option when you want to dress up your straight leg jeans. Similarly to ankle pointy toe boots a good pointy toe heel will make your legs look long and lean. Opposite to pointy, a flat open toe strappy heel sandal is very instyle. This subtle little sexy sandal will make you a few inches taller and feel more confident.
Do Loafers Look Good with Jeans?
Loafers for Straight Leg Jeans
Don’t count out loafers for straight leg jeans! These bad boys will never go out of style. They can really make your outfit look expensive. Pair with a silk blouse and straight leg jeans and you can wear this outfit to casual Friday at work or pair a lace cami, blazer and straight jeans for a streetwear look. Invest in some good loafers and they will last for many years.
How Do You Style Full Length Jeans?
Mules for Straight Leg Jeans
Mules are the best option to wear with full length straight leg jeans. They look great with full or cropped length straight jeans and they’re are super easy. Literally slide them on and go. Don’t worry about where they’re hitting you. If you feel “too short” try a heeled mule option.
Can You Wear Sandals with Straight Leg Jeans?
Sandals for Straight Leg Jeans
Don’t underestimate the power of sandals with full length straight leg jeans. I recommend a pair of sandals you can slide your foot into or have small straps. This way you won’t have to worry about how the jeans will lay over the shoe. Try these greek slides that I’m wearing here. They’re super easy to get on and off, and this style will come back year over year.
High Rise Straight Leg Jeans
At the end of the day, style is all about feeling confident in what you’re wearing. Now that you have some inspiration, feel confident that whatever shoes you pick, you’re going to look GREAT! Still not feeling confident in straight leg jeans and want more shoe ideas? Comment below.

Wide-Brim Hats
Wide-Brim Hats are some of my favorites. They are classic pieces that can really put some sass in your outfit and confidence in your step. This is a hat everyone needs to own. Being versatile, it can be styled multiple ways. Dress it up with a high waisted bodycon midi skirt and heels, or down with mom jeans and sneakers.
The Drue Boater
The Ramona
The Julian
Beret Hats
Go ahead and swap out your old beanie for a beret this fall season! Nothing to be afraid of! This little number can truly make you feel like a parisian with little effort. Try wearing on the back of your head with a slight tilt and you’ll look like you’re ready for the City of Lights! I suggest trying a monochromatic look with a beret to add that pop of color. I’ve paired mine with a leopard pattern coat and shirt dress.
Molded Beret with Faux Leather Band
Leopard Print Wool Beret
Ballcap Hats
A ballcap is the solution for the on-the-go girl. I mean, who has time to wash their hair anymore – am I right? At least for me it’s the best way to hide dirty hair (especially when I need to run to the grocery store and hope I don’t run into someone, lol). However, with a stylish ballcap like this “sleet” cap, I quickly change my mindset right around with confidence. I’ve paired by subtle leopard ball cap (sleet cap) with an oversized sweater and biker shorts.
The Sleet Cap
Wool Cap
Greek Fisherman Hat
Is it a cabbie hat? No, its a Greek Fisherman! Bet you didn’t even know this gem was an option, lol! This stylish hat isn’t just for your traditional sea captain. With a corduroy texture it’s perfect for fall or winter. Play up the texture by pairing with leather leggings and a denim style shirt.

3 Spring and Summer 2022 Fashion Trends That are Actually Worth Buying
Does the warmer weather and things opening back up have you as excited as me? I’m ready to say “Hello Spring and Summer” and get back to being social! Here are three Spring Summer 2021 fashion trends I’ve been seeing on repeat, and you’ll actually want to wear this season.
Bright Pinks
Tired of the neutral trend and want to add a little color in your life? I don’t know about you, but I was loving the neutral outfit trend, because it’s a great way to extend your closet. Needless to say, I’m not afraid of a little color! And if you know me, I love PINK! I’ve looked around and bubble gum pink, fuchsia and hot pinks are IN! This bubble gum pink lace dress would look really cute with a straw hat. Don’t think you look good in pink? That’s ok, try another bold color to complement your skin tone this Spring! I dare you. Comment your favorite bold color to wear!
Bubble or Puff Sleeve
The 80’s are BACK baby! And I’m not mad about it. The puff sleeve style has slowly been creeping back into mainstream fashion. This Spring trend has even creeped into swimsuits (wild, I know). I have to say, at first I was wary, but after seeing it a few times, it’s grown on me! Not sold just yet? Try a more subtle bubble sleeve first with some mom jeans. Give it a few wears and trust me, this Spring Summer 2021 fashion trend will grow on you too.
Eyelet Print
When I think of spring or summer outfits, I immediately think of an eyelet top or dress! I don’t know about you, but I love this pattern. The texture really adds interest to any basic outfit. This is one warm weather trend that will never go out of style – in fact, you probably already have some eyelet pieces in your closet! If that’s the case, pull it out and dust it off this season! In case you don’t, I’ve linked quite a few options!
I know I’ll be wearing these Spring Summer 2021 fashion trends. Will you? Comment which of the three you’re most likely to wear and where you’ll be spotted in them? I think I’ll be spotted in a bubble gum pink dress at my next wedding!

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for a vacation after quarantine. With the weather getting warmer and the risk of COVID decreasing, I want to get outdoors. Packable Sun Hats for Women that Won’t get Crushed in your Suitcase
Headed to the beach or pool this Spring or Summer? These fashionable hats are perfect to pack in a suitcase, pool bag or purse! Their compact size and material makes packing easy, and you’ll avoid a crushed or misshapen hat. Some are water repellant; so the wave, splash, or rain won’t ruin your day! Here are some stylish options that will make packing a breeze:
Rolled Up Visor (UBV002OSMNR)
Ultrabraid packable sun brim hat with faux leather snap tab closure (UBL6815OSNAT)
Women’s Cotton Crochet Hat With A Large Brim (CHL1OSNAT)
Best Sun Hat for Hiking
Hiking is one of my favorite past times; especially alongside a crystal clear lake, a red dusty desert or a golden leaved forest trail. While a trail can be peaceful and serene, sunburn and bug bites are not. To keep the sun and bugs off your face and neck, try a hat with a moisture wicking sweatband:
Women’s Active Sun Brim Hat (CTH8021OSTAN)
Women’s Wide Brim Bucket OCW4706OSBLU
Women’s Wide Brim Sun Hat with Under Brim Print (OCW4707)OCW4707OSGRY
Trendy Beach Hats
One thing I never want to forget while packing for the beach is my hat! I feel like the only way I can see on a sunny day at the beach is a hat and sunglasses. Not even to mention the sun protection it provides. I remember one time getting so sunburned on my face, the spray of water from the shower felt like needles. I’ll never make that mistake again! Next time, I’m packing one of these stylish beach hats:
Women’s Boater W/ Scarf Bow (UBM4482)
Women’s Soft Paperbraid Multi-Way Sun Hat with Oversized Brim (PBX5007)
Womens Seagrass Gambler With Chiffon Band (SGM504)
Sun Hat with Chin Strap
Nothing’s worse than your hat flying off your head, especially on a windy day while trying to read a book on the beach, front porch, or dock. To avoid this happening, try a hat with an adjustable chin strap. Having a chin strap is convenient to be hands free (by tying around your neck and letting it drape down the back). Pick one of these adorable options to avoid losing your hat:
Women’s Removable Chin Cord Ribbon Sun Hat (RBM5575OSBSH)
Women’s Pinched Crown With Chin Cord (UBM420)
Womens Ultrabraid Sun Brim Chin Cord UBM4453OSBRN
Quality Straw Sun Hat
Straw hats are one of the cutest ways to dress up an outfit. Whenever I style a spring or summer outfit and feel like something is missing, I reach for my straw hat. It’s one of those accessories that match most any outfit. One of my go-to outfits is a knotted t-shirt, mom jeans and straw hat! My favorite is a wide brim hat with a black or leather band, but try these options:
Women’s Wheat Straw Wide Brim Boater (WSH1109)
Women’s palm straw fedora with leather trim (MEF1015)
Women’s wheat straw boater with faux leather band (WSH1203)
Visor Sun Hats
Don’t underestimate the power of a good visor. This type of hat keeps your head cool, especially during outdoor activities (tennis, golf, running, etc). It allows you to keep your hair off your neck on a hot humid day. It’s adjustable, which makes it a great option if you have a small or large head. Some have a roll up feature which makes packing simple! The visor is a classic and will come back year to year:
Women’s Ultrabraid Animal Pattern Clip On Visor (UBV057)
Artisan Made Palm Straw Braid Wide Brim Visor (MEV1009)
Women’s Laser Cut Visor with Sizer and Sweatband (OCW4714)
Hats that Protect your Neck from the Sun
How many times have you gotten a sunburn on your neck? It’s one of those easily missed places we forget to sunscreen – at least for me! No matter what activity you’re doing these options will protect your skin from damaging sun rays:
Women’s Wheat Straw Hat With Oversized Wide Brim (WSH1219)
Women’s Woven Paper Wide Brim Fedora With Grosgrain (PBF7366)
Women’s Ultrabraid Striped Bell Sun Hat (UBL6831)

3 Simple Ways to Knot and Style a Basic T-Shirt – Step by Step
Looking for ways to elevate your classic t-shirt style. Try tying a t-shirt knot! It’s a great alternative to tucking into pants or skirts. Here’s three simple methods:
How to Tie a side knot t shirt!
I love wearing this knotted-T style to the gym or out running errands with biker shorts or high waisted mom jeans. It gives my look something a little extra without having to try too hard. Here’s one of the simplest methods.
Step 1: Pull the bottom side part of your t-shirt out.
Step 2: Twist and make a simple knot
Step 3: Pull the tail out and cap over the knot.
Tie a side-knot with colored hair elastics!
This method is perfect for the fitted T-shirts that doesn’t have a lot of extra fabric. By tying it with a rubber band or hair tie you are doing the least amount of damage to your shirt (by avoiding the tugging and twisting). Use the same color rubber band/hair tie as the shirt for the ultimate hiding tactic.
Step 1: Pull out the bottom side part of your T-shirt out
Step 2: Wrap the rubberband or hair elastic around the bottom
Step 3: Make a bun knot
Step 4: Blouse the knot around the band to hide
Crop an oversized t-shirt or sweatshirt!
Want the crop top look without cutting your clothes? I actually prefer to buy my sweatshirts and t-shirts oversize for comfort, but will do this method when I want a more fitted stylish look for going out. Throw a leather jacket over top and you’re good to go! Try this simple method below.
Step 1: Take the bottom edges of your t-shirt or sweatshirt
Step 2: Fold the sweatshirt inward.
Step 3: Tuck evenly into bra all the way around
Now have fun with it! Try knotting your basic t-shirt in the front, side or back! Let me know if you’ve tried any one of these methods and how it worked for you. Comment below!
Looking for ways to style your new mom jeans or straight leg jeans? While they may be a fashion challenge, there are many ways to style them! Whether you’re dressing them up or down, mom jeans can look fashionable even in the coldest of temperatures!
Being a millennial, I’m not going to lie, I was not a fan – I mean, skinny jeans have always been my go to. But they are quickly growing on me after experimenting and getting multiple compliments (the comfort doesn’t hurt either)!
How to style your mom jeans outfit with a white tee and black booties
Start with the basics: a white t-shirt and denim jeans. This is one classic outfit that will never die. With some mom jeans you can put a new spin on a timeless look. You’ll be ready to hit the town after adding some flavor to your outfit with a wide brim black hat and black or animal print booties!
Strut your ripped mom jeans with a chunky knit sweater and black sock booties
Whether you’re running errands or going to lunch with a girlfriend, ripped mom jeans, chunky knit sweater and sherpa boots are the perfect way to look casual and cute! Style hack: Try the french or front tuck on your sweater to make your legs look longer.
Try wearing high waisted mom jeans with a cropped sweater
Wearing a crop top sweater or t-shirt with your jeans is easy and comfortable. You’re sure to feel more comfy with a more relaxed fit. You can forget about having to jump to pull up your pants, or worrying about what tuck you need to perfect.
What shoes to wear with Levis mom jeans in winter.
One of the biggest questions is “what type of shoes to wear with your high waisted denim jeans?”, Tucking them into tall boots just doesn’t look right with the relaxed look. I suggest wearing some leopard mules or any shoe that hits right above the crop length of the jean (I like ankle black sock booties). If the jeans are ripped, opt for a more casual shoe like sherpa brown boots or fur mules/loafers. For a more dressed up look style with heels.
Ok sister friends! Are you ready to sport your straight leg jeans? Did I mention they can make your booty look good too? I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and give these jeans a try. Comment on which look is your favorite or if you need any more direction on how to style!
